Elder (Year 5/6)
This half term, our topic is ‘Awesome Amazon’.
In geography, we will locate the world’s rainforests and hone in on the Amazon Rainforest. We will learn about rainforest biomes and do some fieldwork to measure the heights and girths of our local trees and compare them to those that grow in rainforests. Our science lessons will focus on plant reproduction and the life cycles of different animal groups. Our class reading book is ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell which we will use to inspire our story writing about being stranded in a jungle. We will also write discussion texts about the Amazon Rainforest. Art lessons will involve using our sketch books to explore rainforest art and then using our findings to create a rainforest scene on a ceramic tile with oil paints. In RE, we will consider what Christians believe God did to save people.
