Yr 5 Mr Correy
Welcome to Year 5. My name is Mr. Correy and I am the class teacher. Working alongside Year 5 and 6 are Mrs. Frost and Mrs. Thomas. They will helping the children in and out of the classroom with their learning throughout the week.
Our topic for autumn term 2 is ‘To Infinity and Beyond’. During this topic, we will be finding out about the everyday life of an astronaut living on the International Space Station. We will be using this information, along with inspiration from our class story ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce, to write an astronaut job application letter and diaries from an astronaut’s point of view. In science lessons, we will learn about the Earth, sun and moon and how they move in relation to each other. Also, we will find out about gravity and plan and carry out some science investigations. During geography lessons, we will find out about the position of lines of longitude, latitude, the equator and the tropics. In R.E. lessons, we will explore Christianity and the life of Jesus. We will design and make rockets and see whose rocket flies the furthest. Music lessons will entail listening to and comparing movements from Holst’s planet suite.
Just a gentle reminder that children should be reading their AR books every night and quizzing as regularly as possible. It would be greatly appreciated if you could read with your child to help them develop their vocabulary and understanding of the text.
Now we are in year 5, we need to be taking more responsibility for completing any home discovery journal tasks and bringing in our kits on appropriate days.
