Yr 5/6 Miss Gobel
Our topic for spring term 2 is ‘Pestilent Plague’. During this topic, we will be finding out about the Great Plague of London in 1665. We will look at how ideas of disease and medicine have changed over the years. We will read Children of Winter by Berlie Doherty and extracts from At the Sign of the Sugared Plum by Mary Hooper and write a short story inspired by them. We will also write non-chronological reports on the Great Plague. We will use our geography skills to find where Eyam is and then find out about its historical significance in regards to the Great Plague. In R.E., we will consider why some people believe in a God whilst others do not. In science, we will learn all about micro-organisms: what they are, how they are classified, how they can be helpful or harmful to us and link this to how to prevent the spread of diseases.
Our library time continues to be on a Thursday, which allows us time to quiz and collect new reading books for the weekend. Just a gentle reminder that children should be reading their AR books every night and quizzing at least once a week. Reading Record Books are collected in every Thursday so please remember that these should be filled in at least three times a week.
