Yr 1/2 Mrs Large
Our topic for this half term is ‘Rise of the Robots.’ We will be finding out where robots came from, what they are used for and how they help people around the world.
As a class, in science, we will research about materials and how they can be stretched, twisted, bent and squashed. We will explore how far different materials can be stretched before they break. We will also look at and compare different materials using their properties. We will investigate which materials will be the best to make an outfit for our robot.
In literacy, we will read ‘No Bot the Robot with No Bottom’ and ‘Tin Forest’. We will write our own stories based on the books, as well as writing a set of instructions for our own robots.
We will use our history skills to research about significant inventors from the past. We will explore how technology has changed and why it has changed. We will use our research to create our own fact files.
In computing, we will explore how technology has changed over time and how we can use Beebots to follow maps that we have created. We will use directional language such as right and left to move the Beebots around the map.
In RE, we will explore the question: ‘Why does Easter matter to Christians?’ We will explore the events of Holy Week and explore the different symbols such as eggs, and palm crosses.
On Monday afternoons, the children have their PE lessons led by Mrs Henry and on Thursday mornings, the children have outdoor learning which is led by Mr Ball. Our library slot is on a Tuesday, where the children have a chance to pick a new book to take home and read with you.
