World Book Day
World Book Day takes place on Thursday 7th March 2019, and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion.
World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of 10 special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books at worldbookday.com/books.
This year, we would like to invite children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. There will be activities organised in their class and around school to promote reading along with a Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) session; therefore, children are also invited to bring in their favourite book from home to read and perhaps share.
Finally, we are holding a school-wide competition for the best ‘potato book character’. To enter, your child will need to turn an ordinary potato into a character from a book in any way they would like to. They should bring their entry in, named clearly, to their teachers on World Book Day. During the day, we will judge all the entries and there will be a prize for the winner from each key stage.
We look forward to seeing what they come up with!
